Most rubbish ends up in landfill sites. These vast communal rubbish dumps create enormous quantities of methane, the greenhouse gas that is a major contributor to global warming. The dumps also pollute ground water with poisonous chemicals. What's more, they smell terrible, are an eyesore and the UK is running out of space for them.

How important do young people think recycling is? Point out that it isn't just green campaigners who support it. There are now strict EU targets, and the Government may face heavy fines, up to 500,000 a day, if we do not improve our recycling. What punishments and incentives do young people think would help?
