Factors that influence the onset of caring by a child are examined, and the authors find that the children offer high levels of emotional support.
Even when an abundance of services were being provided, the authors still found that children continued to care.
It is alarming to read that only four of those 40 children had been formally included in discussions with statutory professionals. Likewise, little evidence of meaningful assessment processes for children was found. Sometimes, even those professionals who were visiting the family home on a regular basis also neglected to consider the children's roles or needs - or that of parenting support.
