This is despite the fact that the Government will not be able to reachits targets if the living standards of parents with disabilities do notimprove. One in three children in poverty has a parent with a disabilityor long-standing health condition; their life chances are linked withthose of their parents.
In recent months, the Government has signalled that it wants to takesteps to improve the living standards of such families. Work andpensions secretary John Hutton has instructed his officials to "childpoverty proof" every policy in his department and the ComprehensiveSpending Review includes a major review of support for disabledchildren. So change is afoot.
