Resources: Review - Service use by minority ethnic families

1 min read
This book is an interesting and important resource for professionals who work with, look after or undertake research on children and young people from ethnic minority families.

Child Welfare Services brings together research undertaken on servicesrelating to ethnic minority families by summarising the aims andoutcomes of the availability, provision and adequacy of these servicesand how these are accessed or viewed by children and families.

The authors, for the first time, bring in mixed-race children and theirfamilies, who have been either neglected or ignored in previous studiesdespite being the fastest growing group among ethnic minoritycommunities. By drawing on statistics from the 2001 national census, itnot only provides some up-to-date data that is not readily available, but also provides strong views and opens up the challenge of how futureresearch relating to ethnic minority families should be undertaken.
