Certainly it emphasises the importance of multi-professional collaboration and succeeds in providing core knowledge and skills that cross professional boundaries. Youth workers, Connexions advisers, nurses and social workers should find the book helpful.
It attempts to join up analysis about policy, legal issues and organisational changes under the Change for Children agenda and the Government's social inclusion initiatives with good practice guidance. This is difficult to achieve and there is inevitably more emphasis on the former than the latter within the book. Nonetheless, this is a welcome addition to the professional literature about work with children and families.
The weakest part of the book is chapter three, which attempts to provide an overview of risk and child abuse. In contrast to other chapters, this is quite superficial, probably because it is trying to do too much in too brief a space.
