Resources: Review - A clinical guide to young people's sexual health

2 mins read

The book has clearly laid out chapters, subdivided into manageable and coherent sections. The language used is clear and concise, with explanations of terminology, and the tables and diagrams can be easily understood.

There is information here that would be of use to both the experienced sexual health worker or youth worker and to the "beginner".

The book's shortcoming is its lack of "bedside manner". What a sexual health or youth work professional also needs, in terms of providing support for vulnerable young people, is the ability to respond positively to all young people, in particular those young people that Bekaert bundles together as being "marginalised". All of the issues around cultural differences, sex work, sexual orientation, young people in or leaving care and young people with disabilities are addressed in just one chapter.
