Chapter five draws on the research of Ferri and Smith (1996) and asserts that as the lifespan of a UK marriage is now less than 10 years, the trauma of broken relationships is the reality for many adolescents. This chapter provided a more substantial read than the rest of the book.
However, while making for easy reading, the almost continuous use of lists and bullet points is monotonous and repetitive. This style of writing provides a sort of "buckshot" approach, where a wide area is covered but only the surface is scratched.
