It provides relevant and varied references to research and commentary on life in youth clubs by professionals and academics over the years, incorporating a useful history of clubs from a national perspective. It was interesting to be reminded of recommendations made by The Albemarle Report, Bernard Davies, John Huskins and Tony Jeffs in particular, as they have all played a part in our training or development in some small way.
The book gives a unique insight into the author's experiences as a youth worker and, to a certain extent, her feelings about the service. The topics in the book range from the importance of the coffee bar and residentials to the characteristics of management committees and under-resourced club leaders.
