1. Depression tends to be a bigger problem in the cold, dark days of winter. But there are many forms of pressure on young people. Factors such as drug or alcohol use, unhappy relationships, pressure to have a good time, self-image problems and exam results can all contribute to emotional stress.
2. Never assume you know which young people are most vulnerable to suicidal feelings. But do watch for warning signs such as changes in behaviour, references to suicide, death or general hopelessness.
