Resources: And this is what I do - Richard Corney, investigator(children and young people), York

1 min read

What does the role involve? If we get a complaint from a young person, we deal with it ahead of other complaints. We always try to have personal contact with the young person. If they don't already have an advocate, we can arrange one. We chat about their complaint and what they would like as an outcome. We then ask the council formally to deal with the complaint. We check with the young person after three months that they are satisfied with how the complaint has been dealt with.

What's been one of your most fulfilling cases? A young person went to the council to say he was homeless. But his case wasn't dealt with properly and he ended up sleeping on people's sofas for the best part of two years.
