The group's efforts may even form the bedrock of a parliamentary lobby.
Coming of age ... young refugees facing deportation will look at Canterbury High School pupils, who protested outside a Dover detention centre and helped win the release of an 18-year-old Afghan late last year.
"We want the conference to be a rallying point not just for activists but professionals," said Kate Adams, co-ordinator for conference organiser Kent Campaign to Defend Asylum Seekers.
"The issue is hitting schools and social services because students are becoming liable to deportation. If we win enough support we may lobby Parliament," said Adams, who aims to run a European day of action in April to demonstrate outside UK detention centres.
