Qualifications and Training Guide: Family courts

The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) is the largest employer of social workers in England. Cafcass family court advisers work across private and public law in 18 areas across the country, looking after the interests of children involved in court proceedings. They must be qualified social workers and experienced at working with highly vulnerable children and families.

Regular supervision and quarterly Performance and Learning Reviews underpin Cafcass' learning strategy. Individuals work with line managers to identify development needs and training can include face-to-face workshops, coaching and online learning.

An online learning platform provides modules on topics from social work practice to management theory and personal development. Cafcass' National Improvement Service and HR teams also run workshops and events. Learning from each other is encouraged through ambassador groups and staff conferences.
