Children's Workforce Guide to Qualifications and Training: Social work

A key development for social workers is the National Assessment and Accreditation System, being tested this year in Bury, Leeds, Manchester, Oldham and Wigan before a gradual roll-out.

The scheme, which aims to provide a clear career pathway for social workers, will initially cover the roles of practitioner and practice supervisor. The government is encouraging practice leaders to undertake the assessment at supervisor level to help them understand how it works.

The assessment will be based on the Knowledge and Skills Statements for social workers, which were published in 2015 and updated in May this year. These set out everything practice supervisors, leaders and social work practitioners need to know and be able to do.
