Projects for children: Wavemakers hold inaugural awards

A healthy living scheme and a project that provides leisure activities for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are among the winners in the first awards run by children's charity Wavemakers.

The Sticky Fingers project, which is run by school nurses and family support workers in Southampton, won an award for its work in teaching primary school children and their families about healthy eating.

Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust also picked up an award for a scheme that helps children with ADHD who are unable to access normal holiday play schemes to exercise and improve their social skills.

Other winners included the Communication Is ... project run by Barnardo's in Gateshead, which helps disabled children to express their views of the services they receive, and Particip8 - You Have the Right, a group of children who made a film about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
