About 100 young people aged 11 to 18 in the youth offending service's (YOS) intensive supervision and surveillance programme (ISSP) will be assessed by speech and language therapist Juliette Gregory. She will gauge whether they have undiagnosed speech, language and communication skills problems.
Gregory will then work with the young people and reassess them at the end to see if she has made any difference to their communication abilities.
The project will test whether speech and language therapy can improve young people's communication skills and reduce levels of offending. It will also look at whether the work results in more awareness and understanding of their difficulties by ISSP staff.
