Project notes: TeenzVoice Soapbox

Goals: To give young people the chance to learn communication skills and to showcase young people's views

Funding: A total of 10,000 from the Home Office Communities Fund over two-and-a-half years, plus 2,435 from City & Guilds, for marketing and promotion

Public speaking is enough to make anyone nervous. This can be doubly so with young people who may lack both the necessary confidence and experience to positively express their views or stand up confidently in front of others.

TeenzVoice, a sister organisation to not-for-profit company Voicing our Issues and Struggles, developed young people's voices through its Soapbox programme. The first heat of Soapbox took place just before Christmas, where approximately 18 young people aged 14 to 18 from TeenzVoice's two partner schools in Brent took part.
