Goals: To provide a programme of affordable cultural activities for young people in rural villages
Funding: Sponsorship from local businesses, Surrey Police and charitable organisations
Isolated young people in the village of Cranleigh in Surrey are benefiting from a joint initiative by Cranleigh Youth Club and the local arts centre.
For Local Youth, or FLY, was the result of an idea by two part-time youth workers. They approached the arts centre after a community "health check" undertaken by the council and local businesses highlighted the lack of social opportunities for rural young people at weekends.
More than 1,000 questionnaires were sent to schools in the Cranleigh area, asking questions such as: "What activities would you like to participate in on a Friday night?"
