
Andrew Webb, policy lead on youth justice at the Association of Directors of Children's Services, told CYP Now that the YJB has helped to spread good practice among the 157 youth offending teams (YOTs) in England and Wales.
By reviewing programmes and suggesting the most effective ways of tackling specific issues, the board has helped individual areas avoid duplicating work and wasting money.
Webb said he fears this role could diminish as the YJB is incorporated within the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). "The biggest worry is that we lose the overview of development of best practice and co-ordination and we end up losing an opportunity to do things more effectively," he said.
