Poverty: Report urges more Government help

A report published this week by campaigning coalition End Child Poverty named the price of ending poverty among children and young people in Britain. It put the figure at 6.8bn .

According to the report, 3.8 million children and young people are living in poverty.

End Child Poverty director Jonathan Stearn conceded that Government initiatives such as an increase in child tax credits meant the situation had improved, but added: "If it is going to fulfil its pledge to end child poverty in a generation, the Government needs to come out of the shadows and commit to a more equal distribution of income."
