The term youth worker is a catch-all phrase that applies to the professionally trained and those who volunteer their time to help young people. At times like this we might resort to saying all youth workers must be professionals to ensure that quality is maintained and ethics are abided by. But this could write off the bulk of youth work - volunteers doing something for the young people in their communities.

Youth centre is also a vague term that includes state-sponsored centres as well as vacant shops used by groups to hang out in. There are examples of the latter throughout the UK, especially where mainstream provision doesn't meet particular needs. The youth centre attended by some of the suspected bombers is one example.
