The National Service Framework for Children, Young People and Maternity Services sets out a clear set of standards, key messages and targets to be achieved over a 10-year period. At its heart it advocates a move towards child-centred service development, using prevention and early intervention to ensure children have universal access to needs led, high-quality services.
Public health is also under review and set for reform, with plans set out in the white paper Choosing Health: making healthier choices easier.
Improving children's health through tackling obesity, limiting smoking in public places, improving participation in exercise, and sexual health are some of the key action areas.
