The number of 18-year-olds in full-time education has risen from 39 per cent in 1993 to 47 per cent in 2006, while the number in full-time employment has fallen from 34 per cent to 23 per cent over the same period, according to the latest findings of the twelfth Youth Cohort Study issued by the Department for Education and Skills.
The research questioned 6,879 18-year-olds in England and Wales. The survey estimates that two-thirds of 18-year-olds are in some form of education or training, while 13 per cent are not in education, employment or training (NEET).
