A FEW YEARS ago when I was managing an out-of-school club, a member ofstaff turned up drunk.
It had happened once before. The first time, he had a plausibleexplanation for his behaviour and, after a lot of thought, we'd agreedto treat it as a one-off mistake. In turn he agreed to seek help fromhis doctor for stress, which he said had led to the problem, and we gavehim access to assertiveness training because his lack of confidence wasalso linked in.
