So what was this designed to find out? It was commissioned by the Department for Transport to look at how young people use transport - patterns of travel behaviour, experiences of and attitudes towards different types of transport and barriers to travel. In the spirit of the times, it also considered scope for young people to become involved in policy and decisions about services.

Anything surprising? We journalists sometimes refer to surprising or unusual facts as "look at this, Doris" items. Doris is unlikely to be interrupted much by this report. We find, for example, that very young children are usually escorted rather than making their own journeys. As they get older, trips are more likely to be connected to education.
