So who is this report for? It is written for people in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), but the authors hope it will have a wider readership among health, education and social service professionals.
As the report points out, both participation and the emotional wellbeing of young people are everybody's business.
What is its starting point? The report has been produced to make sure that CAMHS are up to speed with the whole participation agenda. There's a variety of reasons why until now they may not have been. Much of the material produced on participation doesn't mention CAMHS and so hasn't provided a focus for developing participative approaches. The stigma attached to mental illness also means many young people and their families tend to want to get away from services as soon as their needs are met. They don't want to sit on committees, become peer mentors or do anything else.
