The New Deal? All a bit 1998 isn't it? Not if you are an 18-year-old who can't find a job, it's not.

But aren't we always being told youth unemployment has been virtually eradicated? Listen to Her Majesty's opposition and they'll say New Deal has failed, that very few have gone on to sustainable jobs, and many more have ended up back on benefit.

Hmmm, sounds like we need some hard figures. Well, we have a new set of stats from the number-crunchers at the Department for Work and Pensions that show what's been happening from January 1998 to June this year. But, before the stat attack, let's remind ourselves about this flagship scheme from New Labour.
