Who are these for? These are two overlapping guides; one of which is aimed at practitioners, the other one at managers. The lead professional is defined not as a new job, rather as a set of functions enabling a trusted worker to help children, young people and families in need to navigate the system.
And do they give general guidance or detailed procedures? The former.
Much of the material is not really new but has been brought together to form a helpful introduction. The guidance for practitioners starts by explaining how the role fits into Every Child Matters and Youth Matters reforms. An illustration describes the continuum from universal services to targeted support for young people with "additional needs", which may be from a single worker or co-ordinated by a lead professional, and then to integrated multi-agency support co-ordinated by a lead professional for those with "complex needs".
