Police presence in all schools is unnecessary and unwanted

Howard Williamson says there was never any intention to have police officers in all schools.

The investigation by CYP Now into the diminishing number of police officers (or police community support officers) in schools raises some interesting questions. The headline of the article was "Decline in school police presence raises concerns over pupil safety". This is a reasonable point as a general observation, but the more critical point is that pupils in schools are generally safe. There really is little or limited need to have a dedicated school-based police presence in many schools. Indeed, the CYP Now survey indicates that half of the police forces that responded had no officers based in school. I was rather pleased to hear that.
