Playground to aid mentally ill young

1 min read Health
Children using child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) at Birmingham Children's Hospital will soon have access to a specially-built playground.

It will have a soft play area along with facilities for playing basketball, five-a-side football, badminton and table tennis. There will also be space for the young people to sit in when their relatives visit and an area covered by a canopy to give shelter from the weather.

CAMHS patients at the hospital helped design the playground and chose to have it separated into the different areas for play and relaxation.

Peter Hodgkinson, CAMHS ward manager at the hospital, said: "It's good for their physical health and will have positive effects in terms of their mental health. Exercise is an opportunity to run around and burn off energy."
