
CYP Now understands the money will be handed out to 17 CAMHS to create an extra 59 specialist beds for children and young people and fund a raft of initiatives to treat patients in the community.
The funding package follows the introduction of the 2007 Mental Health Act, which places a duty on health services to offer age-appropriate care to children and young people. It also comes after a campaign by England's children's commissioner and the charity YoungMinds, highlighting the plight of young people forced onto adult wards.
Bids for funding were submitted by health trusts in the summer and it is believed many of those that were successful were from the North West of England, which YoungMinds says has particularly high rates of adult ward use.
