Play: Qualifications set to benefit workers

Playworkers are set to benefit from a raft of new qualifications.

A foundation degree in playwork is being piloted in 10 colleges this autumn. Playworkers can also take an updated Level 3 and a new Level 4 qualification in playwork from the autumn.

In addition, Level 3 qualified playworkers can now take transitional modules enabling them to move across to work in early years education and vice versa.

Extra funding from the Government means that students on the foundation degree will get the use of a laptop and a printer for the duration of the course. Their employers will also get supply cover.

The foundation degree is endorsed by SkillsActive and is comparable to the first two years of a full degree course. Universities piloting the foundation degree this year include the University of Bath, Kingston, Greenwich and the University of Hertfordshire.
