The Big Lottery Fund is looking at how it will administer a new 155m programme for outdoor play projects (Children Now, 30 March-5 April).
John Cole, a local councillor and former teacher, who was voted Bradford's play champion by schoolchildren in February, said: "I feel very strongly that this money should be distributed through local authorities. It could be divvied up on a per capita basis."
Cole insisted that councils, such as Bradford, which has a play strategy and a play partnership of different stakeholders, were capable of making decisions on where money should be spent to meet local needs.
Adrian Voce, director of the Children's Play Council, said discussions were still ongoing about how to spend the 155m.
