A statement by the Big Lottery Fund chair, Sir Clive Booth, warned of"possible serious consequences" for the voluntary sector if the Lotterywas forced to pay an additional 900m to cover the risinginfrastructure costs of the Olympics.
It said: "We would not be in a position to develop and fund any newprogrammes until 2013 and would need to make reductions of around 350m in current, published programmes."
But a spokesman for the fund said existing commitments, including thecurrent play programme, would be safe.
However, Adrian Voce, director of Play England, called for reassurancesfor local authorities that work on play strategies had not been in vain.
