Peer assessment for Welsh schools

Education Social Care
Schools in Wales that are piloting the Investors in Families scheme will have to assess each other on whether standards have been met.

A total of 19 schools in five local authorities across Wales are taking part in the pilot, launched last week.(CYP Now, 9-15 January).

Schools will be assessed on how they are working with families to meet the seven aims set out in the Rights to Action policy document.

While in England local authorities tend to use extended schools co-ordinators to carry out assessments, in Wales schools will inspect each other using a peer assessment model.

John Grainger, development manager for IIF, said: "We have always stressed the need to get schools talking and sharing good practice. I think it will be really fruitful."

The five authorities taking part in the pilot are: Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taf, and Merthyr Tydfil.
