Twelve months ago, one of England's longest running youth organisations undertook a major rebrand. Helen Marshall - then less than two years in post - was behind the changes that saw Clubs for Young People change its name to Ambition. In her first role in a youth charity, she also launched a three-year strategy to strengthen the quality of youth services in the UK.
Marshall was promoted to chief executive just six months after joining Clubs for Young People as director of services. Tony Bennett, her predecessor, left after just 10 months in the role. "The board asked him to leave," says Marshall. "They felt they hadn't made the right appointment." She admits, however, that she was prepared to take the helm. "Over six months, I had time to think what I would do if I was chief executive," she says. "That time allowed me to think 'what does this organisation need to do? Could I make a difference?' And I thought the answer was 'yes'," she admits with a laugh. "I like a challenge."
