Participation: We're doing it for ourselves

It can be difficult to get adults to listen to your views when you're young. But, as young journalists from Headliners discover, some projects are getting these voices heard.

Participation is a big word for something that is actually very simple:involving young people in decision making, especially when the outcomeis going to affect them. It's something that's been coming slowly to theworld's attention ever since the United Nations created the Conventionon the Rights of the Child in 1989. It states that all children have theright to participate in all matters affecting them. The UK was one of195 countries to sign up to the document. This was a big step forchildren and young people in the UK because adults finally recognisedthat young people have the right to have their points of views heard andthey should be taken seriously.
