Participation in Action: Youth-led website gets peers talking about FGM

Young people lead a project to create a website to educate peers about female genital mutilation.

Name Everybody's Business

Provider Rosa - the UK fund for women and girls

A website aimed at educating 16- to 25-year-olds on the issue of female genital mutilation (FGM) and how they can help prevent it has been launched by charitable fund Rosa with the help of young people.

"Everybody's Business" is run by young people, and was launched in early January after the charitable trust was awarded more than £15,000 in 2014 from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) to help end FGM and "honour" based violence by creating a network of community champions.

Saria Khalifa, community development officer at Rosa, says the trust felt there was a lot of youth engagement around FGM but that a platform was needed from which to showcase best practice around engaging young people on the issue.
