Promoting self-belief and inspiring vulnerable young people to achieve are the key aims of Teens and Toddlers. The early intervention charity runs an 18-week programme designed to help disengaged teenagers succeed in education, work and the wider community.
Teenagers are referred to the charity by their teachers, who identify them as being at risk of disengaging or becoming Neet (not in education, employment or training) as a result of truancy, teenage pregnancy or behavioural problems. Staff from the charity then visit schools to meet with teenagers who wish to take part in the programme and host induction and recruitment days.
The programme involves teenagers being paired with young children in children's centres and nurseries, where they spend around two hours a week mentoring their assigned children.
