A handful of cool-looking teenagers are sitting on a carpet covered in brightly coloured characters. They're surrounded by toddlers brandishing plastic animals, coloured paper and glue. The teens look on spellbound as one of the children squashes a banana in his fist, and a tiny girl dashes across the room in pink velour and flashing trainers. When I ask the nearest teen if she wants a toddler, she shakes her head and says: "Not until I'm older. Much, much older."
This session, taking place in Duncombe Primary School in Islington, north London, is run by Teens and Toddlers, which is trying to tackle the notoriously high teenage pregnancy rates in the UK and help reduce the numbers of young people not in education or employment.
