PARTICIPATION: Government to launch youth site

1 min read

The cross-department initiative, called the Young People's Portal, is aimed at 13 to 19-year-olds and is billed as the "definitive" government web site for teenagers. It is co-ordinated by a project team based at the Connexions National Unit in Sheffield, working with internet development company Cimex.

The site is likely to be organised under topics such as health, travel, education, relationships, money and the law, and government information will be supplemented with other resources.

So far, more than 1,300 young people have been involved in the design of the site.

Project manager Debbie Usherwood said: "Young people have told us they want balanced content. If there is something on abortion, we would include the pros and cons. It's not just about pushing what the Government wants to tell people. We are being more customer-focused."
