Aynsley-Green told Young People Now he is "anxious to move swiftly" on the idea, but wants to think about any relevant regulations and legal implications, as well as the competencies the young people will need. He also wants to fully consult young people and the youth sector about the proposal.
"I want some serious responses to the idea. I don't want to present this to the sector as a fait accompli," said Aynsley-Green. "Would there be serious support for the appointment of a number of regional young commissioners around England?"
The intention would be for young people to act as full members of the commissioner's management team, which in practice would probably confine the roles to older teenagers.
