Parents in limbo on Isle of Wight

Education
Isle of Wight Council has been bombarded with calls from anxious parents wanting to change their stated preference of schools for September after it emerged that about half the primary schools on the island are to close (CYP Now, 16-22 January).

Parents have said they are frustrated they will have to wait until after a decision on the exact nature of the educational reform is made on 19 March, and many do not understand the reasons behind the changes.

If they change their choice now their application will be treated as a late submission and they risk missing out on their preferred choice of school.

Conservative councillor Alan Wells, the Isle of Wight's lead member for children and young people, said there was no ideal time to announce the detailed proposals for the three options for educational reform, but urged parents to wait until a decision had been made.
