Lee is still bubbling with enthusiasm after visiting Ghana as part of a trip organised by Deckham Community Association and Connexions Tyne and Wear over the October half-term. Like most young people, he would probably balk at the idea of doing unpaid teaching work or growing vegetables back home, but threw himself into the tasks in the village of Shia.
The 11 young people aged 15 to 22 taught Ghanian schoolchildren maths and English and helped to stage debating sessions. It was the second time that six of the 11 had visited the country after a previous trip five years ago.
