- What is the working culture like?
Local services maintain a strong "can do" culture with a tradition of integrated and flexible working. There are three teams in children's services. They are mutually supportive, but depend on individual contribution and commitment to innovation and improvement.
- Where do the main challenges lie?
The past year has seen an escalation in the numbers of child protection referrals and of children needing to be on the child protection register or cared for away from home, putting pressure on all services. However, with a population of about 20,000, caseloads are small. Work is challenging because of the quality and attention to detail expected, as well as the need to design personalised services.
