A government initiative aimed at encouraging healthy eating during pregnancy by giving mothers-to-be money for fruit and vegetables has attracted criticism with opponents saying cash should go into maternity services instead.

I do agree with the government's proposed scheme, as long as the correct measures are in place to ensure that the money is only spent on fruit and vegetables. Having a nutritionally balanced diet during pregnancy is of utmost importance for both mum and the growing baby - especially with the recent dramatic rise in maternal obesity and growing concern surrounding the impact of fetal programming.
