These toy guns are ball-bearing guns. They are also known as air-soft guns because they use a weaker air charge than air guns to fire the pellet or ball bearing.
Except they are "not toys", says Conservative MP Anne McIntosh. "These things can cost up to 300," she told The Observer. She also worries about potential serious consequences - "they might blind a child or kill them".
She is considering introducing a private member's bill that would ban them.
But are they already banned? More confusion. Carrying a ball-bearing gun in a public place carries a penalty of up to six months' imprisonment, reports The Times. The paper also has a different slant on the price from McIntosh. They can cost "as little as 14.99", it says.
