The good news is that Surrey County Council has approved a plan for a new centre. The bad news is that a local businessman grabbed the headlines by dissing the proposal and young people. Roger Flanagan, whose catering equipment import business is next door to the centre's proposed site, let fly a stream of generalised abuse about local young people.
He told the local paper that his staff see police moving on "troublesome youngsters" every week. "Local graffiti problems have got worse," he says.
"My friend's son was mugged for his phone outside the station." He says he will uproot his business if the centre opens.
