Opinion: If I were in charge of ... A youth centre - CharlotteWhite, 14, east London

If I were in charge of a youth centre I'd do things like take children on trips to keep them off the streets, because around here there's children hanging around on streets, smoking and stuff. If there's a youth centre to go to, there's more chance of them coming off the streets. If the Government paid for more trips, more people would come on them.

Keeping people off the street is important because that's how troublestarts and parents don't care. If you're not on the streets, you don'tget into trouble, it's very positive. If I were in charge, I'd run newtrips every week and run music and dance groups.

I'd also have pool tables and table tennis.

To get people to come, I'd put signs up around the place saying theyouth centre is open. Or I'd give out leaflets outside people's schoolsso children could read them and think: "That's something I could doinstead of hanging out on the streets."

When the workers are strict and don't let you do anything, the workersare shit. You need nice youth workers who don't moan and let you dothings.
