The launch of a national strategy to raise achievement among ethnic minority pupils is fantastic because for the first time there is a programme dedicated to this area. This is really positive because schools will get support, including financial help and access to training.
The pilot schools should identify the best strategies for raising achievement and there will also be support for primary schools to increase the attainment of bilingual pupils.
One of the difficulties in the past had been that work in this area was not embedded in the school system, but the national strategy finally focuses on these issues.
