Opinion: Hot Issue - Do youth workers have too much paperwork?

1 min read

NO - Harry Fowler, joint acting head of youth service, Birmingham City Council

We are arguing strongly for our service to be regarded as a profession, with a role as important as teaching and social work. Record keeping, evaluation, planning and tracking progress all fall under the description of paperwork, and are essential parts of the job. Imagine going to see your GP only to find they have no record of you. Paperwork is an essential element of what we need to do to ensure that young people get the best deal.

YES - Brian Lindsay, group manager, youth support and development service, Barking and Dagenham Council
